Coventry NIHL Blaze are delighted to confirm that forward Ethan Wheeldon will return to the club for the 2026/27 season.
The 21-year-old forward will continue his development with the Blaze after signing a contract extension on 8 July 2026, securing his place within the Coventry lineup for the upcoming campaign.
Wheeldon has become an important part of the Blaze roster since making the step into senior hockey, having first joined the club setup ahead of the 2021/22 season. Across his time with Coventry, Elite Prospects records 115 appearances, 17 goals and 15 assists for 32 points, highlighting his continued progression at NIHL level.
The 2025/26 season saw Wheeldon take another step forward, featuring in 21 NIHL 2 regular-season games and recording 10 points, including five goals and five assists. His points total ranked him among the Blaze's regular contributors during the campaign.
Wheeldon's development has been built on consistency and versatility, with the forward providing energy, pace and offensive depth throughout the lineup. His ability to contribute at both ends of the ice has made him a valuable member of the Blaze forward group.
Alongside his league production, Wheeldon also made an impact during cup competition in 2025/26, scoring two goals in four North Cup appearances.
The young forward is also part of a strong group of developing Coventry talent, with the Blaze continuing to combine experienced heads with players progressing through the organisation. Wheeldon's long-term association with the club mirrors the pathway seen by several current Blaze players who have grown within the Coventry system.
With another season of experience under his belt, Wheeldon's return gives Head Coach Sean Alderson another important offensive option as the Blaze prepare for a push in the 2026/27 season.
Welcome back, Ethan!
