Coventry NIHL Blaze are delighted to confirm that defenceman Daniel Upton will return to the club for the 2026/27 season.
The 24-year-old blueliner will continue his development with the Blaze after signing a contract extension on 10 July 2026, keeping him in Coventry colours for the upcoming campaign.
Upton has become a reliable presence on the Blaze blue line since joining the club setup in 2021, bringing consistency, defensive awareness and a strong work ethic to the team. Elite Prospects records the defenceman as having made 139 NIHL 2 appearances for Coventry, contributing four goals and 11 assists for 15 points during his time with the club.
The 2025/26 campaign saw Upton continue his progression, featuring regularly for the Blaze as part of a defensive group that helped Coventry finish third in the NIHL 2 regular season with a 14-7-2-1 record and 47 points.
While his role is primarily focused on the defensive side of the game, Upton has continued to develop his offensive contribution from the back end. His career numbers show steady improvement since making the move into senior hockey, with his ability to play a dependable role allowing those around him to contribute offensively.
Upton's time with the Blaze has also included valuable playoff experience, featuring during Coventry's postseason runs as the team has continued to compete towards the top end of NIHL 2.
Now entering his sixth season with the organisation, Upton represents another example of the Blaze's ability to develop and retain players within the group.
With another season secured, Upton will be looking to continue his development and play his part as the Blaze aim to challenge for honours.
Welcome back, Daniel!
