Coventry NIHL Blaze are delighted to confirm that defenceman Daniel Retter will return to the club for the 2026/27 season.
The right-shot defenceman will continue his time in Coventry after agreeing a contract extension on 14 July 2026, securing his place within the Blaze defensive group for the upcoming campaign.
Retter joined the Blaze ahead of the 2025/26 season and quickly became a dependable option on the blue line. Standing at 6'3", the defenceman brings size, reach and a physical presence to the Coventry defence.
During his first season with the club, Retter featured in 28 NIHL 2 appearances, recording five assists from the back end while bringing reliability and defensive awareness to the lineup.
Although his role is primarily focused on limiting opposition chances, Retter has shown the ability to contribute offensively when opportunities arise. Across his wider hockey career, Elite Prospects records 151 appearances, five goals and 24 assists for 29 points, highlighting his experience across British hockey.
Retter's addition last season helped strengthen a Blaze defensive unit that played a key role in another strong campaign for Coventry. The Blaze finished the 2025/26 NIHL 2 regular season in third place with 47 points, conceding just 62 goals in 24 league games — the second-best defensive record in the division.
The 2026/27 season will provide Retter with the opportunity to continue building chemistry within the Blaze defensive group alongside returning players and further establish himself within the team.
With his size, experience and defensive qualities, Retter's return adds further stability to a Blaze roster looking to challenge at the top end of NIHL 2.
Welcome back, Daniel!
