Coventry NIHL Blaze are delighted to announce the signing of forward Brodey Butlin ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Butlin, 21, joins the Blaze after developing through the Coventry and Solihull junior systems before making the transition into senior hockey with the Nottingham Lions. Elite Prospects lists Butlin as a forward and records his previous junior career as a goaltender, giving him an interesting and versatile hockey background.

His hockey journey began between the pipes, with Butlin spending eight years as a goaltender within the Coventry Blaze Academy and at Solihull. Following an injury, he switched positions and began his development as a forward, first with the Coventry Centurions before progressing to NIHL 2 with the Nottingham Lions.

The position change has given Butlin a unique understanding of the game, having experienced it from both sides of the puck. He has since established himself as a forward in Nottingham's NIHL 2 setup, including wearing an alternate captain's 'A' during the 2025/26 season.

During the 2025/26 campaign, Butlin recorded 11 appearances, one goal and one point for Nottingham Lions 2 in NIHL 2.

For Coventry, the signing represents another opportunity to bring a player with strong connections to the Blaze pathway back into the organisation. Butlin previously represented Coventry throughout his junior career, including 38 appearances for the Blaze U16 programme, as well as appearances at U15 level.

Now returning to the organisation as a senior player, Butlin will be looking to take the next step in his development and establish himself within the Blaze forward group.

His experience as a former goaltender also gives him a valuable perspective on the game, while his progression into senior hockey demonstrates his determination to continue developing following his change of position.

Welcome to the Blaze, Brodey!
